A skillfully woven ending clears up any questions about the characters. Scant characterization at the beginning is so well done that readers will be compelled to keep reading to find out more. Parts of the book are very suspenseful, while others give readers a chance to catch their breath. The plot and mood move along consistently, drawing readers in and sustaining an uneasy feeling throughout. As the hunt progresses, it takes a freakish turn with an horrific ending that leaves readers shaken but hopeful. His team includes an old friend, his best friend's girl, her handicapped brother, and three newcomers to the town. Trying to achieve some normalcy in his life, he is drawn into the school scavenger hunt. ![]() Carl Timmons, a high-school senior in a small California town, is troubled by the accidental death of his best friend. ![]() Once again Pike gives readers a roller-coaster ride. ![]()
